Grontmij won the much coveted audience award at the Day of the Public Space for the Bedrijvenpark Waterschei project. This is the second such award as Grontmij won the prize last year for the Renovation of Machelen Village. The former mining area of Waterschei was developed as a location for non-environmentally harmful companies in a park setting. The synergy between the science park and the protected mine buildings is achieved by basing the design concept around a barcode.

Grontmij wins ‘Public Space 2009’ award
Grontmij has received the ‘Public Space 2009’ award for the redevelopment of the village centre of Machelen (Zulte). The ‘Public Space 2009’ prize was awarded on the occasion of the trade fair 'Day of the Public Space'. From 43 applications, the jury selected five cities and muncipalities. Visitors had the final vote. During the closing ceremony, the mayor of Zulte, Henk Heyerick, received the prize from Flemish minister Hilde Crevits. She pinted out that the redeveloped centre of Machelen managed a subtle balance between the typical character of the old village and the present day tourist requirements. Obviously, this prize is a great recognition of the design by Grontmij.

Grontmij is the fastest grower in Flemish Brabant
Grontmij is clear champion amongst the fastest-growing medium-sized companies in the province of Flemish Brabant. This is the result of a ranking ddveloped by the leading economic magazine Trends. Trends’ editorial department first selected long list of 75 medium-sized enterprises based on their strong growth in terms of turnover, staff and cash flow in the period 2003-2007. If these criteria are taken into account, Grontmij is the number one on the list. An enormous booster for our joined efforts of the last years.

Grontmij, the first BREEAM-assessor and advisor in Europe 
BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) is the leading and most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings. After a successful exam Grontmij now has BREAAM assessors in all Grontmij countries. Grontmij is the first assessor and advisor for existing real estate (BREEAM-in-Use) and is now able to execute assessments and advisory throughout Europe.
