Strong partner in the support of wind projects

On a European level, Grontmij plays a very important role with regards to wind energy. We are active and develop small to large on-shore and offshore wind energy projects for diverse energy players.

In addition to good knowledge of the commercial available wind turbine market, we have all the expertise and software (a.o. Windpro) in house for the calculation of the energy output and return, taking into consideration the location and the lay-out design of the turbines. We also map all effects, such as rotor shadow, noise and visual impact, and check the feasibility of the projects.

Permitting and project management
As a multidisciplinary organisation, Grontmij is a strong partner in developing wind farms with regards to permitting (environmental and building permits) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). Our experts are perfectly up to date with the extensive additional conditions (bird guidelines areas, breeding grounds, aviation, high voltage, roads…) and the present legislation. Knowledge of the area and the parties involved are our trump cards here. That way, we instantly help to create public support for the project intervention.

In addition, we handle all services related to the realisation of the project, such as foundation engineering, soil investigation and landscape development.

Network connections
Grontmij uses its knowledge and experience in mid and high voltage fully to connect green energy to the energy network. Technical expertise and knowledge of the procedures of distribution and transmission network manager (Elia) are our trump cards.

On-shore wind energy
Grontmij’s expertise is used in two fields. On the one hand, we develop ‘wind plans’ of a specific area for the governments, such as for a port area or a municipality. On the other hand, we support project developers and energy companies with the optimal integration, licensing and realisation of their ambitions in wind energy.

Offshore wind energy
Grontmij is involved in the offshore projects on the Thornton bank, off the Belgian coast. In this project, we leverage on our experience in concession dossiers ad technical aspects of high-power wind farms. In addition, thanks to its European network, Grontmij has very valuable expertise regarding maritime foundations. The foundations are crucial for the feasibility of an offshore project.
