Mobile Mapping

One-off Collection, Multiple Use
Mobile Mapping provides Grontmij with the necessary instruments and expertise to perform detailed data collection from a mobile platform.
Grontmij have specifically opted for a system that is widely deployable. The system’s key features are aimed at achieving high accuracy (at centimetre level), flexibility of the recording sensors (cameras, lasers, ground radar, etc.) and of the area of deployment (land, water, rail). Grontmij stand out from other mobile mappers by focusing on the added value that can be achieved for their customers and by executing the project in line with the customer’s application requirements. Non-standard mobile mapping projects have entered the realm of possibility. By cleverly combining sensors, one recording can suffice to work out the various aspects of a project, such as measuring an as-built plan, examining the thickness of the asphalt and performing a visual inspection of the present condition of the road.

Fast, Flexible, Accurate and Safe
With the help of Mobile Mapping, Grontmij can perform readings and inspections accurate to the last cm and this at a speed adapted to that of the daily traffic. This means that other road users are not inconvenienced in any way and this also avoids having to cordon off traffic, which would result in the usual traffic jams. In just one day of field-based recording, one can perform data collection covering tens of kilometres.

Applications for Roadways, Waterways and Railways
By carefully selecting the right sensors and positioning system, the Grontmij Mobile Mapping system becomes completely independent from the vehicle on which it is mounted. All projects can be performed not only on land, but also on rail and waterways.

A Tradition of Knowhow
Grontmij control the entire Mobile Mapping process: from configuration set-up, calibration, survey, post-processing and mapping, to the final disclosure of the imagery. This means that a Mobile Mapping configuration can be set up for any type of application. Our in-house designed software enables us to calculate in advance the estimated accuracy of the end result when using a specific sensor configuration.
