Oleon, Biodiesel Tank Depots
Oleon specialises in converting natural fats and oils into a large number of oleo-chemical products such as fatty acids, glycerine, fatty alcohols, esters and dimers. Oleon has two production sites in Belgium, one in Ertvelde and one in Oelegem, one in Norway and one in Germany, and employs a total of 510 people.
Oleon is certified by the Belgian government to sell biodiesel and receives tax benefits to this end. In January 2007, Oleon opened a brand-new biodiesel plant which took the site's total production capacity up to 400,000 tonnes a year.
Grontmij took care of the engineering work on the two surrounding tank depots and the connections to the plant:

- Stress calculations
- Pigging systems
- Calculations and specifications for equipment and instrumentation
- Technical evaluation
The experience gained from this project has been highly valuable in getting on board the diesel train, and in taking part in future projects concerning bio fuels.
