Rebuilt clinical supplies unit for UCB

UCB, Brussels, Belgium (www.ucb.com) is a biopharmaceutical company focused on research, development and commercialization of innovative medicines with focus in the field of the central nervous system and immunology disorders. In 2008 UCB counted approximately 10,000 employees in more than 40 countries and reached a turnover of EUR 3.6 billion. UCB is listed on Euronext Brussels.

At UCB’s site in Eigenbrakel (Braine-L’Alleud), in Wallonia, a rebuilt clinical supplies unit was put into service in the late summer of 2009. Grontmij was in charge of keeping this critically timed and tightly planned project on track.

UCP packages medicines and placebos at its clinical supplies unit in Eigenbrakel. Among others, hospitals use these materials for their
clinical trials. The test materials are made ready in identical packaging with no visual distinction but identifiable by batch numbers. Owing to the amount of customisation within the clinical supplies unit, a lot of manual
operations still take place. This work is carried out in a whole series of compact rooms, each with its own function and associated equipment.
