Process technology

Process technology, process knowledge

A large dose of processing technology expertise forms the base of almost every Grontmij industrial engineering project. The conceptual thinking starts in the process department where ideas are then translated into results. We have a deep understanding of process technology.

Our process engineers are usually involved in every part of the project starting from the concept phase up to detailed engineering. They are particularly focused on process safety and process energy efficiency.

The process department's activities include:

  • Designing Process Flow Diagrams with energy and material balances;
  • Drafting P&IDs;
  • Drafting Process Datasheets for equipment and instrumentation in accordance with international design codes such as ASME, British Standards, AD-Merkblatter and PED;
  • Drafting basic specifications for all utilities and offsite facilities;
  • Process simulation (Hysis, TASC);
  • Process calculations for the machinery;
  • Hydraulic calculations and networks (AFT Fathome);
  • Solid matter transport;
  • Hygienic/Aseptic design (for Pharma and Food);
  • PIER (Process Installation Energy Review) and deeper investigation into energy efficiency for processing systems (including Pinch analysis).

Processing safety

  • Performing the HAZOP studies;
  • Performing the Cause & Effect analyses;
  • Determining the SIL classes;
  • Calculating and specifying safety devices and systems;
  • Handling the safety screening of installations;
  • Providing the fire safety systems for chemical and petrochemical installations;
  • Performing zoning studies (according to Atex guidelines).
