Adapting to short-term economic cycle fluctuations
Are we seeing another crisis? In following the media coverage, it seems pretty clear that we are rolling from a banking crisis towards a Euro crisis, topped with a political crisis. Does a new economic crisis have to result again, as well?
In my opinion it’s not certain that we’re heading for a “double-dip” recession. What we are aware of, is that the stable economic trends of the pre-2008-era are a thing of the past, even for production investments. The dynamics of the markets in a globalized world are forcing us to quickly adapt ourselves to short-term economic cyclical fluctuations, which are different in each region.
This insight leads to the evaluation of investment projects where the budgeting and business case should be covered in a favourable time frame. And wherein cost optimization and detailed infrastructure should give the necessary confidence to investors to execute a project with maximum control following the go ahead. There are many challenges and / or opportunities here for the stakeholders: the plant owners, contractors / builders and not least the engineering firm.
