The European Social Fund (ESF) has been given the task of strengthening Flemish employment policy. As such it contributes to the goals of the European Union's Lisbon strategy. Within this strategy, priority is given to initiatives which promote work and employment. Flanders focused a great deal on 'innovation'.

Companies and organisations are called upon to contribute to new, different forms of labour organisation in the form of ESF subsidies. Companies must have the ESF quality label in order to apply. With this aim in mind, Grontmij Industry had the ESF perform a quality audit. The findings of the audit team were very positive. The quality label is valid for a period of 3 years, after which a new audit will take place. Grontmij Industry is already planning for the next round and will develop further in a number of areas.
